FILMING PROCEDURE
Statement of Policy and Procedure

VOMO (Voice Of My Own) and Wired are two media projects run by Scottish Borders Council (SBC). Getting consent forms signed and collected is becoming more and more of a task for all concerned. There are so many activities on offer! So we have decided to create one form which will cover all ‘standard’ activities offered by the VOMO and Wired media team.
By noting what is regarded as ‘standard’ we should all understand when and where the VOMO and Wired media team are responsible, and when that responsibility ends.
VOMO TV
Standard activities
VOMO is based at the Lesser Hall, upstairs at the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels. Sessions there include training and recording audio and video reports and programmes which may be included on VOMO TV on the web. From time to time participants will make their way on foot into Galashiels to film or record audio in public spaces, or in a location agreed by VOMO, such as the Mac Arts Centre. They will be under the direct or indirect supervision of a Media Tutor. This will continue until they finish their session back at the VOMO office, or by letting a Media Tutor know that the participant is leaving the session.
VOMO TV
Not covered
-
VOMO will not take participants away from Galashiels by car
-
VOMO will not ask participants to travel by bus
-
VOMO will not ask participants to carry out activities not specifically covered above unless prior permission has been granted by the parent or carer.
Participants may record audio or video elsewhere using their own cameras, phones etc. This is in their own time, and at their own risk. VOMO may agree to feature the resulting footage on VOMO TV, but this is only once it already exists. VOMO cannot take responsibility for how footage is filmed when this activity is not under VOMO’s supervision.

Additional consent
If VOMO wishes to offer an opportunity not covered by the ‘standard’ activities above then it will seek prior agreement from the parent or carer by phone, text or email. A separate signed consent form will not usually be required, but no non-standard activity will take place without parental or carer’s awareness and approval. An example might be filming or recording a report in a location other than Galashiels. Planned group excursions to a location outside the Borders, such as a visit to a TV studio or exhibition, will always require a separate consent form to be signed.
WIRED
Standard activities
Participants will meet at Radio Borders at Tweedbank and will work under supervision by a Media Tutor to prepare that week’s programme. VOMO/Wired will only be responsible for participants while they themselves are on the premises. Training sessions may also take place at VOMO’s offices at the Volunteer Hall, Galashiels. Recordings may be made on location with the prior agreement by phone, text or email of the parent or carer.
